Hed Kandi top tip for Barcelona

A tour of the city on an open top bus is the best way to take in the sights. For one price you can get on and get off as many times as you like throughout the day, this way you can cherry pick which sights to have a closer look at. Gaudi's La Sagrada Familia is a must see and football fans won't be able to resist paying a visit to another cathedral, FC Barcelona's Nou Camp stadium! Eating delicious tapas around the port area is thoroughly recommended and for the energetic, why not venture up Montjuic and taking in a rich mix of gardens, fountains, sculptures and the impressive Olympic Stadium? You'll be rewarded by some of the most spectacular panoramic views of one of the world's great cities.

Barcelona bars

Barcelona bars

Danzatoria Tibidabo This elegant club-bar is situated within a beautiful house on a suburban hillside frequented by the Barca florinata - that's posh folk to you and me! This place is most definitely more up market and although sometimes a little 'posey', the house is well worth a visit. The three floors have been turned into a club-bar by the offspring of the owners who also run the sexy more minimalist Club Danzatoria down by the port.

Quite what the neighbours think we have no idea but the beauties in here will make your head spin almost as much as the strong sangria cocktails that the welcoming bar staff prepare. Stays open until after 3am and there's no charge. Sexy Spanish decadence doesn't get much better than this!

Carpe Diem This is a hot club-bar located under what looks like two desert tents on a spacious lawn just off Gregoria Maranon. A popular venue for private parties, it can fit several hundred revellers at a time, although most Fridays and Saturday it is packed with good-looking senoritas and senoras from you, the public. It is a well known spot for post-bar raves, expect to be going until the early hours if you make it over here!

Margarita Blue A little bit of everything for everyone here. Very good Mexican food at pretty reasonable prices gets you working up an appetite. The Margarita Blue attracts a mixed bunch - there's even live theatre twice a week if your culture quotient is lacking. Or you can blast your brain cells with one of their red-hot cocktails!

Barcelona top 10 things to do

1. Sagrada Familia by Antonio Gaudi, a giant temple designed by the master architect Antonio Gaudi. This building has been under construction since 1882 and they've still got another 30 to 80 years (depending on funding and resources) to go before it will be finished.

Some people love the Sagrada Familia and some people hate it but whatever you think I guarantee it will cause a reaction one way or the other.

2. L' Aquarium de Barcelona, Barcelona Aquarium is a popular Barcelona attraction to take the kids and young ones. The aquarium is at Port Vell (Barcelona port area).

3. Poble Espanyol de Montjuic otherwise known as the Spanish Village. This Barcelona attraction is a small Spanish village with different quarters that replicate the style of houses and architecture from different parts of Spain. Poble Espanyol is also home to a whole host of specialist craft shops and workshops where you can see some traditionally made Spanish goods.

4. La Pedrera - Casa Mila by Antonio Gaudi. Another one of Antonio Gaudi's creations once again hits the top 10 most visited attractions in Barcelona. This building used to be called Casa Mila but nowadays it's more commonly known as La Pedrera which means "quarry". Gaudi was instrumental in completing this building and his characteristic wavy brick work and colourful tiles are also evident on this masterpiece.

5. Barcelona FC Museum. No surprises here! If you are a football fan then this museum is an absolute must see. It has wall to wall trophies, pictures and statues of the greats. When you buy your ticket you have 2 options. You can buy a ticket for the museum and to see the stadium or you can buy a dual ticket where you get to see the museum and behind the scenes at the club e.g. changing rooms, VIP lounge, press conference areas etc. An immense football stadium that will have you dreaming of being a footballer again!

6. Barcelona Zoo. Barcelona Zoo is based in the Parc de la Ciutadella and the best way to find it is to go to Ciutadella park and to follow the signs to the Zoo. The zoo has a wide variety of animals on show. It also has a restaurant, picnic area, a shop, electric cars, ponies and a mini-train.

7. Picasso Museum. The museum has arranged Picasso's paintings in chronological order from his early days to his final works. Arranging the paintings in this way gives you a fascinating insight into the development of Picasso thinking over time and shows how he developed the distinctive designs that he is famous for today. A very popular art gallery.

8. Imax Cinema. The IMAX cinema is right next door to the Barcelona Aquarium (see above) Go and see the 3D movie "Killer Sharks" in the IMAX then pop over to the Aquarium to see the real thing. It adds a whole new dimension to your experience!

9. Miró Museum. This art gallery has a wide range of Miró's work dating back as far as 1914. This artwork collection not only includes his paintings but also a good selection of sculptures, tapestries and early sketches. A wonderful collection of Miró's work.

10. National Museum of Art of Catalunya MNAC. The National Museum of Art of Catalunya MNAC, is housed within the Palau Nacional (built in 1929 for the World Fair) situated on Barcelona's highest point, picturesque Montjuic. A must for all art lovers the National Museum of Art of Catalunya MNAC is renowned for its vast collection of Romanesque and Gothic art. Walking through the huge hallways of the Museum you will be impressed with the ancient works of art which are today, cherished national treasures.
